The closest off-property hotel is the Best Western Park Place Inn %26amp; Mini Suites -- it's literally right at the main crosswalk you'll use to cross Harbor Blvd to get onto property and to the Esplanade...

Some of the Disneyland Good Neighbor Hotels that are right across the street with easy access to the Disneyland Parks are:

Ramada Inn Maingate

Best Western Park Place Inn

Tropicana Inn and Suites

Carousel Inn and Suites

Anaheim Camelot Inn and Suites

Anaheim Fairfield Inn by Marriott

Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel (an extra block away but I do recommend this hotel)

I would recommend any of the hotels that I listed.
If you can afford the disneyland hotels, all of them are great- go to http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyla…

I booked the Crown Plaza, a 3.5 star hotel there, last spring for $45 a night using priceline. It was amazing. Just check out the forum posts or post your own questiosn to find out how. The people are very helpful.
While they are expensive, the Disneyland resort hotels are really really convenient. The walk to Disneyland is really short and when you stay at one you get to go into the park an hour early on some days which allows you to ride a bunch of rides with little to no wait. The rooms are pretty small and they are nothing special but they are really great when you are tired of walking and want to relax; you don't have to walk very far to get to your room. You also get to ride the Monorail into Downtown Disney which is right where the hotels are located. If you can afford them I would really recommend it. The cheapest of the 3 is the Paradise Pier Hotel.

I found this article on the "Top Ten Disneyland Hotels" it includes the Disneyland Resort hotels and some ones nearby for comparison.
