Any Disney Vacation Club Members Out There?

I have already spoken to the DVC staff many times and they are very helpful but a little hard to understand sometimes. I need some advice from someone who actually is a member.

1. How many points a year do you own? (if you are comfortable stating the price)

2. How many points do you spend on an average vacation? (what exactly can you get for your points?)

3. How much are the annual maintenance fees/taxes?

4. Are DVC members able to get in on Disney special offers such as the Dining plan, etc?

5. Overall, do you think it is worth it? Any other tips, advice?

Thanks so much.Any Disney Vacation Club Members Out There?
Don't listen to Woody. If you want to stay on WDW property, DVC is a brilliant thing. It saves a ton. We own a considerable amount of points at Saratoga Springs and the new Bay Lake Towers. We rent out whatever we don't use. The points you use varies depending on time of year and where you want to stay. We've used points for the Disney cruise. Maintance fees depend on how many points you own and where you own them. For example, our Saratoga points have a higher fee than our Bay Lake points. DVC members do get some discounts. I ABSOLUTELY, WITHOUT A DOUBT THINK IT'S WORTH IT! We have been members for 4 years and LOVE it.
Not a member, but there are a zillion second hand time shares out there for dimes on the dollar. Consiider those before signing up with Disney.Any Disney Vacation Club Members Out There?
I am not a member, but someday soon I hope to be. Check out disboards.com and go to the DVC section. I have been going there for months and you will get many of your questions answered. I believe you really don't get a lot of discounts just because you are a DVC mem. I know you do get a discount on annual passes and maybe a 10% discount at some restaurants, but I really think that's all. There are also charts that help you figure out how much the maintenance fees are, I think you can just Google DVC point charts, or something like that, but I think it's around $5 per point per year, but each resort is a diff amount.. Good luck!
You own points by what you own and use. If you own enough points for a 2 br vacation week unless you purchase more points then that's all a year. Some resorts are more expensive and your points may be less ex. you don't have enough points to book in the best/popular resort on Christmas holiday, but enough for the other resort. The resort with the animals is very expensive to stay. You could own enough points for all the resorts except that one. If you go to one less popular resort one year, you could have more points than if you went to the more popular one. The maintenance fee goes by how many points you purchase, since it's a timeshare, but without the deeded resort entrance. Expect at least $700 and they keep raising the fee.

I don't think it is worth it unless you feel there is nothing else worth other than Disney for vacation. If you ever want to go somewhere without the Disney World on your back, forget about it. But if Disney is what you want, they will give it all too you. I just think I really didn't need any giraffe's in the yard at my apartment. It's cheaper to buy another timeshare and just go to the parks. I like Sea World so I feel it's another world out there when on vacation in Orlando.
