I am in Vegas and suppose to leave on Wed (7/29) but would like to try to stay an extra day and leave Thurs. (7/30). I called SW customer support and they said to change my ticket the cost would be an additional $220. Has anyone ever flew standby with Southwest without incurring additional fees for changing their flight or has been able to get Southwest to change the flight without incurring the outrageous increase?Does anyone know if there is a way to change a flight with SW Airlines without being charged the new rates?
Their standby rules, like every other airline, is pretty standard. You can only fly standby for free if it's the same day of travel. When you want to switch your ticket dates, you'll have to pay the difference in the air fare. That difference is the $220 that they quoted you. Just be happy that Southwest isn't charging a change fee with that difference in air fare. Any other airline would take on at least another $100 just to change the ticket over. So just paying the air fare difference isn't that bad.
I've flown Southwest so many times, I should have my own plane name, but there's really no way out of it. I'm sure in the past you could have gotten away with getting moved over to standby, but Southwest just lost money three quarters straight until this past Q2. With that being said, you'll not only see them enforce their fee policies more aggressively, but you will also see them add more fees and increase current ones to compete in this environment.
Actually, you're getting off easy. All they're demanding is the difference in fare. On most airlines you would be changed $50-200 on top of that!Does anyone know if there is a way to change a flight with SW Airlines without being charged the new rates?
Nope.....pay to play...........
