Doe's anyone here in the U.K use the Disney Vacation Club?

I've just found out about it and i'm trying to understand how it work's.

I have looked on the internet, it just seem's a bit long winded.

How much does it cost to join or whatever?

Do you think it's worth while?

How does it work when you're at Disney World on holiday with it?

Do you have to go on holiday every year?

I'm a huge Disney fan and would love to go with my family in the near future (i'm 19) it's just money is tight at the mo.

Anything else that i will need to know about it?

Thanks xDoe's anyone here in the U.K use the Disney Vacation Club?
Hi there,

I am a Disney Vacation Club member but cannot recommend it, as it is not worth it financially. How it works isn't easy to explain but when they do it, it sounds fantastic and it isn't until much later that you begin to realise how expensive it really is.

I bought 270 points per year, these points can be used at any time and at almost any Disney property, not just your home property. You can also use these points to get a holiday at many other non-Disney timeshares as they have a deal going with another company who have properties all over the world. Sounds great so far. You can also bank your points so they can be used in the following year, so if you wanted to go for a longer holiday the following year you would have double the points to do so. Still sounds good.

What you're actually buying is a piece of the Disney Vacation property, for my 270 points/year I own 0.02% of a unit at Saratoga Springs (not much really) and can only own it until the property is 50 years old, then it reverts back to Disney. In order to buy this, they arranged a loan with a repayment of 拢215 per month over 10 years, it was originally 拢185 but it went shooting up with a couple of months due to inflation, however, I was lead to believe this was a fixed rate. The property needs to be maintained, this year the cost is approx 拢900, remember this is on top of the loan and the costs do go up each year. Not sounding quite so good, especially when you realise that you've spent around 拢3500 this year and still need to fork out for the airfare to get to Disney and the park tickets, this would add on 拢2150, giving a grand total of 拢5650 just for two of us to spend a fortnight at Disney World.

If you decide to use your points to take a holiday elsewhere, there is a $95 charge for exchanging your points. even if you only want to spend a night in London. Last year my daughter used my points for one week at Disney Paris, still cost me 拢3500 and my daughter had to pay for her flight and park tickets on top, again very expensive for just one week's holiday.

Even though in 10 years the loan will be paid, you might be thinking that you get another (in my case) 38 years of holidaying without having to pay for the hotel but you will still be paying the annual dues for the upkeep of the property and they do go up each year, by my calculations, once my loan has finished the dues are more than likely to be around the 拢2000 mark.

My mother has just come back from a two week P%26amp;O cruise around the Carribean which cost them 拢499 each, this includes entertainment, food and soft drinks. So my advice is, don't buy into the Disney Vacation Club, save your money up and spend your Disney holiday at one of the All Stars resorts, or Pop Century as they are excellent value for money and have great food courts (no Vacation resort has a food court). Then save your money the next year and go cruising.
