My wife and I are looking to buy into the DVC or Disney Vacation Club.
We have looked at the numbers and they look good.
I was wondering if anyone has any info that might help
ThanksDVC Disney Vacation Club sale and resale info?
You should really think about where you will want to stay most of the time and make that your home resort. Then look at the point charts for that resort to figure out how many points to purchase. (Will you go every year, or every other?). For example, a one bedroom savanah view room at animal kingdom for seven nights will cost 242 points in June, or 209 points in September (2011). So, if you are going every year, maybe you want 225 points. You can book your home resort at 11 months out and others at 7 months out. Many people consider resale of Hilton Head or Vero Beach for cheaper buy-in. However, you want to stay at Disney, you would never be able to make a reservation until 7 months out and it may be harder to get. Also, those resorts have much higher annual dues.
If you haven't gotten the free DVD and packet from Disney, you should do so. Read the materials thoroughly. There is a lot of info that sales reps and resales people will not go through with you.

Check out the DVC section at www.disboards.com. The people there are real experts. I haven't purchased yet, but I almost feel like an expert on DVC now for hanging out there so much. I also know that resales are popular, it seems like a lot of people purchase theirs through www.dvc-resales.com a.k.a The Timeshare Store. You get all of the same perks as buying directly from Disney, except these are older contracts, meaning resorts that you usually can't buy into Direct from Disney, since Disney tends to only be selling their newest resorts. Resales are much cheaper, they average maybe $80/point- depending where you go, and you can purchase smaller contracts and add on later as you may need, or can afford. There are some cons with resales, such as some of the older contracts being sold aren't for the newest extended timeframe, they expire a bit earlier- but not all and your salesperson should know all about that. You also pay a yearly fee based on your points, so older resorts may have higher fees, which can add up if you have a ton of points. Know that each contract has a banking month, which means if you can't use your points for the year then you have to bank by that month. I haven't quite figured out how the banking month works, but I know they say it's important. :)
I hope I gave you a little help, but mainly check out the disboards.com for more info.DVC Disney Vacation Club sale and resale info?
The only info I can give you is personal experience. My wife and I have been going to Disney for a long time, including our honeymoon 17 years ago. In 2004 we joined the DVC, and it was the best investment we ever made. We have now "gone home" to our home resort twice since we bought into the DVC and our home resort of Saratoga Springs and the experience was outstanding, and we can't wait until April and our next visit home. My whole family are DVC members, and we had a trip that combined our points and stayed at a Grand Villa. It was one of the most memorable trips we ever had. 10 of us in a Grand Villa, outstanding!
First, they make the purchase very easy to do. Second, you can use those points anywhere in the world at so many locations, so I don't necessarily have to use them at Disney (although that is the primary location). The resorts are amazing, there is no way I could afford to stay at places like this and pay the normal rates. This April is going to be at the Treehouse Villas at Saratoga Springs.
If you want more opinions or have any other questions, I would recommend the disboards. The disboards is a message boards type website all about going to Disney. You can get resort reviews, trip reports, restaurant reviews, and much more. I learn something new just about each time I log on. They have a section that is all about the DVC, you can ask specific questions and get specific answers from DVC members all for free. I put the link below.
I hope this helps, and Weclome Home!
We have been members in DVC since 2003. I thought it sounded great, but my husband wasn't so sure. Then several of his friends joined %26amp; told him how much they like it. It has been wonderful. We just bought more points. The places where you can stay are fabulous. The price is worth it.
