The best day and time is when you find a price that looks good (or at least bearable) to you. All else is speculation.
Some people will tell you that it is cheaper to buy them on a certain day of the week or right after midnight. It's complete rubbish. Airlines change prices constantly depending on supply and demand. I've seen the price of a single flight change multiple times in a single day.
It is true that you can sometimes save money by flying on Tuesday or Wednesday for a domestic flight - not by buying the ticket on Tuesday and Wednesday. (It was true that prices were adjusted at particular times many years ago, but computers have gotten considerably more sophisticated in the last 20 years.)
Discount seats are limited and prices go up once they cheapest seats sell out. If you wait too long, it can get very expensive. There are no guarantees, but you're often better off buying sooner better than later.What's the best day/time to buy plane tickets?
Actually just had a thing on the Today Show about this a few days ago. They said the best time to purchase tickets is on Tuesday night between 12:01am-1:59am...but that's local time to where the airline is based. Southwest airlines is based in Dallas, TX.
